HELP ON THE WAY

Frequently Asked Questions

We get a lot of the same questions. Not because people don't know what they're doing, but because most tech companies make everything harder to understand than it needs to be.

Pricing & Billing

  • How much do you charge?

Depends on the job. A quick printer fix takes a lot less time than a full virus removal with data recovery. We always give you a clear estimate before anything starts – no guessing, no vague answers. You know the cost before we touch anything. Generally we charge $95 an hour for our service work.

  • Will there be surprise charges?

Never. If we open something up and find more going on than expected, we stop and explain what we found. You decide whether to proceed. Nothing extra gets added without your go-ahead.

  • Do you charge for the initial call or consultation?

No. The first call is always free. Sometimes we can point you in the right direction over the phone and save you a visit entirely. We only schedule a house call when it’s actually worth your time.

  • What payment methods do you accept?

Cash and all major credit and debit cards, Venmo, and Paypal. We collect payment after the work is done and you’re happy with the result.

Computers

  • What camera brands do you install?

Ring, Nest, Arlo, and Eufy – the ones that actually work reliably. We handle mounting, Wi-Fi connection, app setup on your phone, and make sure motion alerts and recordings are working the way you expect.

  • Do I need to buy the cameras before you come out?

Yes you buy the hardware, we handle everything else. If you’re not sure which system to get, call us before you buy anything. We’ll ask a few questions about your home and what you want to cover, and point you in the right direction so you don’t end up with the wrong thing.

  • I think I have a virus. What should I do?

Stop using it for anything sensitive — no banking, no passwords, nothing personal. And don’t click any pop-ups, especially ones telling you to call a number or download something. Those are scams. Then give us a call. We’ll come out, remove everything we find, recover your data if needed, and get proper antivirus set up before we leave.

  • My computer won't turn on at all. Can you still help?

We can definitely take a look. Could be a failed power supply, a dead battery on a laptop, a loose connection, or something more serious. We’ll diagnose it and tell you exactly what’s going on and whether it makes financial sense to repair.

Wi-Fi & Networking

  • My Wi-Fi is slow in certain rooms. Can you fix that?

Dead zones are one of the most common things we deal with. The fix depends on your home’s layout and what’s causing the drop, sometimes it’s as simple as moving the router, other times you need a mesh system or an extender. We assess your specific setup and recommend what actually makes sense, not just the most expensive option.

  • I just got a new router and can't figure out how to set it up. Can you help?

Absolutely. We’ll get it configured properly with the right name, strong password, security settings sorted and reconnect all your devices. We also make sure the placement and settings are optimized for your home, not just the factory defaults.

  • My internet keeps dropping. Is that my router or my ISP?

Could be either. Figuring that out is the first thing we do. We run diagnostics to see whether the problem is coming from the provider’s line, your modem, your router, or something on your network. If it turns out to be your ISP’s fault, we can jump on a call to troubleshoot.

  • Is my home network secure?

Probably less secure than it should be, if we’re being honest. Default passwords, outdated firmware, open ports — these are common and most people don’t know they’re exposed. We do a full review, flag the issues, and lock things down. Worth doing especially if you work from home or have a lot of smart devices on the network.

Smart Tvs & Streaming

  • My TV won't connect to Wi-Fi. Can you fix it?

Yes. Usually it’s a settings issue or a signal problem rather than the TV being broken. We diagnose it and get it connected. If the TV’s built-in Wi-Fi has actually failed, we can set up a wired Ethernet connection or add a streaming device that bypasses the problem entirely.

  • My streaming keeps buffering. Is that a TV problem or internet problem?

Almost always a Wi-Fi signal issue between the router and the TV,  not your internet speed, and usually not the TV itself. We test signal strength at the TV location and find the fix, whether that’s moving the router, adding an extender, or just running an Ethernet cable to the TV for a solid connection.

  • What streaming devices do you work with?

All of them – Roku, Amazon Fire Stick, Apple TV, Chromecast, Google TV, Nvidia Shield. We set them up from scratch, get your accounts logged in, and make sure everything’s actually working before we leave.

  • I have too many remotes. Can you simplify things?

Yes. We can set up a universal remote or configure your TV remote to handle the soundbar, streaming device, and anything else connected. Most smart TVs can control HDMI devices natively with the right settings. We’ll get it sorted so you’re dealing with one remote instead of four.

Printers & Peripherals

  • My printer says "offline" but it's on. What's wrong?

This is probably the most common printer complaint we get. Windows loses track of the printer’s connection, usually after a router change, a Windows update, or the printer’s IP address shifting. We find the cause and configure it properly so it doesn’t keep happening every few weeks.

  • Can you set up my printer to work wirelessly?

Yes. We connect it to your Wi-Fi, get the right drivers installed, and make sure you can print from your computer, phone, and tablet. We test it before we leave — not just assume it worked.

  • Do you work with all printer brands?

HP, Canon, Epson, Brother, Lexmark, Samsung — yes, all of them. Inkjet, laser, multifunction all-in-one with scanner and fax. If it plugs in or connects wirelessly, we can sort it.

Home Security Cameras

  • What camera brands do you install?

Ring, Nest, Arlo, and Eufy – the ones that actually work reliably. We handle mounting, Wi-Fi connection, app setup on your phone, and make sure motion alerts and recordings are working the way you expect.

  • Do I need to buy the cameras before you come out?

Yes. You buy the hardware, we handle everything else. If you’re not sure which system to get, call us before you buy anything. We’ll ask a few questions about your home and what you want to cover, and point you in the right direction so you don’t end up with the wrong thing.
